শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ ছিলেন ভগবানের জীবন্ত প্রতিরূপ। তাঁর কথা বা বাণীগুলি শুধু তথাকথিত পুঁথি-পড়া শিক্ষিত মানুষের ‘লেকচার’ নয়, এ যেন জীবন-গ্রন্থ থেকে তুলে আনা অমৃত-বাণী! তাঁর গল্পের ছলে শিক্ষা দেবার যে অভিনব ‘মডার্ন টেকনিক্’ তা দেখে আমরা বিস্মিত হই! ঠাকুরের শিষ্য মহেন্দ্রনাথ গুপ্ত অত্যন্ত যত্ন ও আন্তরিকতায় ঠাকুরের যেসব বাণী ও কথা লিপিবদ্ধ করেছিলেন, তা-ই পরবর্তীকালে ‘কথামৃত’-র রূপ পেয়েছে। সে যে জাতি, বর্ণ বা ধর্মের মানুষ হোক না কেন, কলিযুগের এই ঘোর অন্ধকারে ‘শ্রীশ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ কথামৃত’ গ্রন্থখানি যেন দিকভ্রান্ত পথিককে আলোর দিশা দেখায়। Sri Ramakrishna was the living embodiment of God.
